Abstract Los Angeles

By Benjamin Simpson

Los Angeles is vast,a wandering metropolis of concrete,

freeways and hidden sights.

Within this rambling area, are glimpses,

pieces caught with the corner of the eye.

Which reflect something of the greater Los Angeles.

Murals of all shapes and sizes adorn buildings and walls.

I heard once that Los Angeles has the second greatest numberof murals of any city, after Mexico City.

I don't know if this is true, but it feels like it is.

-

The promise of pen and book, beside a school...

-

A famous face just off Hollywood Blvd, beginning to peal...

---

A goddess, hidden in an alleyway...-A tagger, ready to explode...

-

Famous...

-

"Mama, I'm Hungry"

-

Remnants of the 1984 Olympics, hidden under freeway overpass...

---

Automotive Smog Check Station and pigs... A railroad's face watching...

-

Personalized trailer for living behind a collection of industrial warehouses...

-

New Stone Age: The iconic border crossing sign on an abandoned wall...

---

Smith, deceased but still sitting on Hollywood Blvd... Virgin Mary on a Fence...

-

Neon: Waiting for dark...

-

Bridge over the always dry, always concreted Los Angeles River...

-

The Sun rising below air-conditioning...

-

-While there is sometimes an attempt to fit everything in a simple category,
there are some things that never will.

Graffiti is an everpresent part of Los Angeles

and can reflect stupidity and ignorance

to intelligence and creativity.
